SuderlandHome Care has recently opened a new cafe in Herrington Country Park, located off the A183 and just across from the Penshaw Monument.
The cafe employs local people with learning difficulties and gives them work experience and other valuable skills. The new employee’s even enjoy the benefits of the share scheme offered to all staff of Sunderland Home Care.
The cafe sells hot and cold drinks, snacks and other items to help make your visit to the park even more enjoyable.
For many years we had the Robert Oakeshott Award, in recognition of the huge contribution he made to Sunderland Home Care. Two extraordinary care workers would go off on a two day jaunt, visiting other employee owned companies and basically having a good time.
Robert became very ill and sadly passed away in 2011. We did not want his memory to go unnoticed so the Board of Directors agreed that we have the memorial award.
Sunderland Community Furniture Service and SCFS (Contracts) Ltd are now working with Independent Futures providing work placements in their store and providing gardening services throughout Sunderland.
All profits made by SCFS are pledged to the charity to enable it to continue providing services to people in need within the community including providing opportunities for people with disabilities.
